why would a finch fly at night?

A finch flew into our house. My mom is calling animal control as she is worried it is sick and wants to have the thing checked out. Its rainy and windy right now so that could attribute it.I have several theories

1. Its nest was destroyed in the wind and rain and it sought shelter in my house.
2. It IS sick
3. It is a pet shop bird and is stressed as it may have escaped and came to my house,Would not be the first time a pet shop bird found its way to us.

  1. Birds don't live in nests..they would only have one during the spring when they breed. Birds do take refuge from the wind and storm and may have been trying to sit it out in the eaves of your house or on your porch and just got confused and flew into the house when it saw the lights from inside. Birds usually sleep at night..you can keep it in a quiet, safe place and release it in the morning. If for some reason it does appear sick or is unable to fly, you should contact a local wildlife rehab:
